Overview: As Debra Dixon says in her book on GMC, every character in your novel needs or wants something. Once you know what that something is and why it matters deeply to them, you can find obstacles to throw in their path. Condensing this goal with its motivation and conflict into two concrete sentences (one for internal goals and one for external) will provide a solid foundation for plotting or pantsing your novel.
