Wow, the older I get, the quicker the years fly by! This year, I wasn’t quite as successful at meeting my goals as usual. There were two main things that affected staying on track. One was that writing a longer book last year (A Wide and Pleasant Place) took “more” longer than expected. It wasn’t just a matter of adding a few weeks to the schedule as I’d naively done! Writing the longer length took some rejigging in my brain as well.
Secondly, I lost about six weeks of writing time over the summer when I was worried about my sister (who spent weeks in ICU), we had a light case of covid, I flew to Florida for a few days to see my sister, my dear friend Paula Marie passed away, and we took a short vacation. That took a good chunk of July and August, and it took a bit to get into the groove again afterward!
Here is what I had planned for 2022.
I had planned to write 5 and publish 5 titles in 2022. Instead, I wrote and published 4 titles. I wrote about 276,000 words of fiction and published about 264,000 words.

• A Wide and Pleasant Place (92,000 words — Farm Fresh Market Romance 1)
• Choose Me for Always, Cowboy (57,000 words — Cavanagh Cowboys Romance 5)
• Trust Me With Your Heart, Cowboy (57,000 words — Cavanagh Cowboys Romance 6)
• Her Unlikely Hero (70,000 words — Easter in Gilead)
Published in 2022:
• Kiss Me Like You Mean It, Cowboy (57,000 words — Cavanagh Cowboys Romance 4)
• A Wide and Pleasant Place (92,000 words — Farm Fresh Market Romance 1)
• Choose Me for Always, Cowboy (57,000 words — Cavanagh Cowboys Romance 5)
• Trust Me With Your Heart, Cowboy (57,000 words — Cavanagh Cowboys Romance 6)
Series Bundles published in 2022:
• March: Cavanagh Cowboys Romance 1-3
• June: Pot of Gold Geocaching Romance Complete Collection
• September: Urban Farm Fresh Romance 10-12
Audiobooks published in 2022:
August: A Wide and Pleasant Place (narrated by Anja Johnson)
Communication goals for 2022:
• Blog here 2-4 times per month, including more THM recipes, since they attract new visitors (haha, utter fail)
• Blog at Inspy Romance monthly (success!!)
• Podcast at Story Chats weekly (success!!)
• Send 2-3 email newsletters a month (success!!)
• Visit my FB Readers Group several times a week (success!!)
Whew, I didn’t do as badly as I thought with my communication goals. Basically, I bombed this blog… although I notice I didn’t even pretend to make a goal of keeping up with my Facebook page, which is really the only social media presence I have at all! My Facebook group (join here) was doing much better under Paula’s care than the past few months under my own, but hey, I’m working on it.
Stay tuned next week to see what I have planned for 2023!
I’ve been posting my annual goals to my blog for quite a few years, if you’d like to have a look. Before 2009, my reporting was a bit haphazard, so after poking around for a while, I decided “back then” wasn’t relevant! Still, if it would amuse you, here’s the list:
