If you care about the earth we live on, start by ditching plastic bags. Why? They don’t actually biodegrade. Sure, they disintegrate into smaller and smaller bits, but they are still there and they are still plastic. Check this out:
Buying reusable fabric bags to bring home your groceries is a relatively simple first step.
Do grocery cashiers ask this question anymore: “Paper or Plastic?” Not very often! But your best response would be a smile and “Neither!” while you set your collection of fabric bags on the conveyor belt.
Is this a step you’ve made? What other very simple steps could you take?

I've been making my own shopping/tote bags since I love to sew. Even gave some as gifts this past Christmas. 🙂

I've made a few, years ago, but my niece made me my newest favorite one. It's patterned after the plastic grocery ones, but folds up into its own pocket. Sweet 🙂

Detest plastic bags. We asked for paper at the commissary today and wound up getting plastic anyway. (We forgot to pay attention after we told them our preference) We have reusables in the trucks, but you have to take them into the store with you for them to do any good.

First step is that they make it back to the vehicle at all after being emptied in the house. That's my biggest glitch. My grocery store has a big sign out by the main doors that says something like: Do you have your GREEN bag? (Why yes, they sell fabric bags!) On more than one occasion, I've gone back to the car to grab them. On other occasions, I've said, Dagnabbit, they're at home.
