Deconstructing Dinner has accompanied me on many a walk down our country road back in the days when it was a local radio show and podcast. What a thrill to attend a local viewing of two pilot episodes of it as a TV show last evening!
Jon Steinman, host of the radio show and now the TV pilots, chatted a bit about the history of the programs and introduced local farmer Roy Lawrence, who is featured in the “Wheat” episode of the show.
What does it mean to deconstruct dinner? It means to look at the component parts, how they’re grown and where, and what all is involved in getting this food to our dinner plates. Steinman has strong opinions (many similar to mine) and has done the research and travel necessary to make contacts and dig into the background of our global food system. What’s good about it? What’s bad? What works? What doesn’t? What have we lost? Have we gained anything to make the losses worthwhile?
Enjoy viewing the pilot episodes as well as some shorter webisodes over at the new Deconstructing Dinner website, or dig into the radio show archive. Load some of them onto your iPod, or download the whole works through iTunes and learn all about our food system.
