Being unemployed for the past few months has left me with a bit of extra time on my hands. (And if you believe that, I’ve got an igloo with air-conditioning to sell you in the Yukon.) So it only seemed natural to start a new website.
Am I crazy? Only time will tell. What I do know is that I enjoy teaching, both online and in person. I’ve taught numerous workshops (on the muse, on point-of-view, on writing hooks) at Forward Motion for Writers. I’ve taught a bunch of writers how to use Scrivener via chat. I’ve taught Mapping the Muse, GMC: Not Just a Truck, and From Beginning to End at regional writers’ conferences.
I don’t claim to be an expert, but I have learned a few things over 12 years of writing, 11 novels, and 1 novella.
I’ve moved some of my writing posts from this site to the new one and given them a new, updated look. But the main thrust of To Write a Story is to build a list. Unlike God’s Green Acres, the monthly newsletter from this site, which is aimed for those at the intersection of food, faith, and fiction, the other list will be for those wishing to learn to write fiction. I’ve created a FREE course that will deliver a lesson a week to recipients’ inboxes for the better part of a year, walking them through planning, plotting, writing, editing, publishing, and marketing a story.
I’m guessing that most of the people who read valeriecomer.com—and who wish to write—are already writers. This course may not be for you. I get that! And I don’t want you to sign up as a favor to me, only if you feel you’d benefit from examining someone else’s approach. However, if you know any beginning writers, I’d be thankful if you steered them my way.
You—or they—can sign up to receive blog posts by email, as well, but the focus and most of the action will be on the To Write a Story course list. Sign up in the sidebar and get started!
