Yep, I do! Not in real life, but definitely in fiction. Last summer I began thinking about what I would write when the Farm Fresh Romance series would be complete. When the idea for an urban spin-off series hit me, a goat crow-hopped into my mind’s eye.
A goat? Do they really allow those creatures in cities?
I was leaning toward setting this series in Spokane, Washington, partly because I’m familiar with it, and partly because it is within a few hours’ drive of Green Acres Farm, the setting of the Farm Fresh Romances. I envisioned occasional visits between the two settings.
Spokane does allow urban goats!
Secure in this knowledge, the romance of Eden Andrusek and Jacob Riehl (Sierra and Chelsea’s younger brother, whom you’ve briefly met in the FFR novels) began to take shape in my mind. Secrets of Sunbeams will kick off the new series:
One animal control officer with her own escapee goat. One solar architect whose report has been eaten. Can romance and urban farming blossom on the same city block?
So if you see a bunch of articles on goats here on my blog in the next couple of months, you know why. It’s all in the name of research.
Lol,Do you realize you are a fiction writer and you could put a goat in Spokane, even if they didn’t allow them.
I look forward to the series.
Sure… but the more I stick with facts, the more fun I can have making it believable!
I appreciate the research you put into your fictional romances. That is why the stories are so believable. Love the concept of the interaction between the Farm Fresh characters and the new series. Nice title for the first book in the new series. Goat pictures are adorable. Love to have a goat.
Thanks, Renate! I’m having fun interweaving the two series 🙂
A cutie. Wished I could have a goat, but I do watch the cuties kid on two legs. Looking forward to your new series and the interaction with the Farm Fresh series. Nice authenticity to your romances. Enjoy your weekend.
We loved our goats, so fun and playful. Some cities allow a chicken or two but I’m not sure about goats.
Spokane really does allow goats, sheep, and pigs, that stand no taller than 24″ at the shoulder!
