I love when I can write a story in the same season it’s set. I’m working hard on getting Berry on Top off to my beta readers, and the story timing is perfect for the weather we’ve been experiencing lately. While Liz enjoys her first Idaho winter after a decade in the Far East, I’ve been able to look outside the window or go for a walk with the camera to capture the beauty she sees.
A couple of weeks ago we woke up to crisp cold and gorgeous hoar frost. Once the sun shines down on it, it quickly melts away, so we got outside with the camera right quickly! I love how the ice crystals encompass every branch, every twig, every mountain ash berry, every stem of grass.
And then I came inside and wrote a scene with hoar frost into Berry on Top! If you’re on my email list, you’ll be getting a newsletter next week with pre-order links. Coming soon to an e-tailer near you!

Never heard of hoar frost, not sure if we receive this in SW Michigan or use the term. Maybe the vinters do when the make ice wine. Our local photographer Josh Nowicki does an excellent job sharing his daily pictures of an ice encrusted light house. Thanks for your great pics and article.
