As part of my research for my Green Acres series, I’m looking at the concept of Intentional Communities. The basic definition of an intentional community or ecovillage is a human scale, full-featured settlement which integrates human activities harmlessly into the natural environment, supports healthy human development, and can be continued into the indefinite future.
Dancing Rabbit EcoVillage in Missouri is one such community. Here’s their general introductory video:
I’ve been reading and viewing photos and videos across their website and nearly a dozen others in this research, wondering what differences I’d bring to a fictional ecovillage. How would the basis of Christianity rather than New Age affect how such a village would operate?
And why doesn’t my series have a cooler title than Green Acres? Dancing Rabbit is such a fun name. Must think of something!
I’m thinking along the lines of How Would Jesus Live? (Assuming he brought his BC lifestyle to the 21st Century…)
Make that “His.”
I think the kibbutzim are a more contemporary phenomenon! Okay, just kidding. Certainly villages way back were far more reliant on each other and less reliant on the outside world than any today are. But that’s a good way to look at it.
