Does God Care What We Eat?
I’m absolutely convinced He does! We are His precious creation set onto a stunningly beautiful planet He designed to sustain and nourish us.
So much has changed since early human civilization. We’ve gone from a hunter-gatherer society to slash-and-burn agriculture to modern farms. Farming today has a huge environmental impact with its focus on monoculture and pesticides and insecticides. In recent years, the injection of GMOs (genetically modified organisms) into a variety of basic crops such as canola and corn has taken farming in a whole new direction.
Urbanized westerners no longer are connected with their food, and many ruralists aren’t, either. Kids don’t know that milk comes from cows, that carrots grow in dirt, that meat comes from animals. Knowledge is blocked out when all we see are tidy packages in the supermarket.
I’ve always been interested in real food from scratch–gardening, canning, bread-baking, beekeeping, and more–but my conviction has increased dramatically since God has given me three delightful granddaughters. In this world of rampant disease and pollution, I am compelled to do what I can to make these little girls’ lives the best I can. I’ll help supply healthy food–local food, organic food, seasonal food–to grow strong bodies and minds.
If you’re interested in this Christian author, speaker, and ruralist’s perspective at the intersection of faith and food, I hope you’ll stick around. I don’t have all the answers, and no doubt I’m missing many of the questions, too, but exploring the subject is close to my heart–and God’s.
