Ever wondered what it’s like to be a bee?
We’ve kept bees for four years now. I enjoy watching them in the trees and garden, listening to the gentle drone as they carry on their duties. They are fascinating little creatures, and even more so when you get the chance to peer into their hives and taste the sun-warmed fresh honey. (Months away, at this time of year!)
Beekeeping friends of ours have a bee suit for their preschooler. This is definitely something we want to get for our grandgirls, so they can satisfy their curiosity safely. The smallest suits we’ve seen start at a kids’ size 6, so we’ll likely wait another year. SweetPea is only three years old.
Meanwhile, though, I was happy to find the Backyard Book Are You a Bee? This is a very cute introductory book to the life cycle of a bee, as well as how beekeepers interact with them. Having this book in the grandgirls’ bookcase for them to look at (and have us read to them) will go a long way to helping them understand the bees and become interested enough to want to get suited up when they are a little bigger.
It’s a sweet little book. Follow the link to search inside at Amazon and see for yourself!
What about you? Are you curious about bees? Are you interested in hearing beekeeping stories here on the blog?

Valerie,
I found your blog through the ACFW loop. So nice to meet you!
How fascinating that you keep bees.
I have written in a bee keeping scene in my latest WIP after much research. It’s such an interesting hobby.
Thanks for the review of the book, and I would like to hear beekeeping stories.
