Life is full of waiting, isn’t it? As kids, we waited for summer vacation–then for school to start again–then for Christmas. As adults, we waited for jobs, for college acceptances, for the ‘right’ person to enter our lives, to get our dream home, for babies, for… The list is endless, isn’t it?
As writers, we do a lot of waiting, too. We wait for time to write, for critiques from our writing buddies, for contest results, for an agent who ‘gets’ our voice. Then we wait for book contracts, and even then, there is always more waiting to do.
Face it. No matter what stage you are in life, waiting is a big part of it. The important thing is to not sit around navel-gazing, but to find things we can do while we wait.
At ACFW Conference in 2009 in Denver, our worship leader, Rachel Hauck taught us the following song by John Waller. It became the unofficial theme song of the conference. I believe the song was written for the movie Fireproof. I haven’t seen the movie, but this song has resonated deeply with me, and recently I bought the album from iTunes.
The following video is the official version, so the choreography is that of the movie.
The Lyrics
I’m waiting
I’m waiting on You, Lord
And I am hopeful
I’m waiting on You, Lord
Though it is painful
But patiently, I will wait
I will move ahead, bold and confident
Taking every step in obedience
While I’m waiting
I will serve You
While I’m waiting
I will worship
While I’m waiting
I will not faint
I’ll be running the race
Even while I wait
I’m waiting
I’m waiting on You, Lord
And I am peaceful
I’m waiting on You, Lord
Though it’s not easy
But faithfully, I will wait
Yes, I will wait
I will serve You while I’m waiting
I will worship while I’m waiting
I will serve You while I’m waiting
I will worship while I’m waiting
I will serve you while I’m waiting
I will worship while I’m waiting on You, Lord
What are YOU waiting for right now? What’s your attitude? And what are you doing while you wait?
